If you're looking for the best bang for your buck in a watch, you've found it - period. In our opinion there is no watch company that gives you more for your money at any price. The best bit is they're affordable for everybody.
While most microbrands seem to be trying to extract as much of your money as possible, Aragon have gone the opposite way, constantly providing outstanding value that you simply will not see anywhere else.
Design and Aesthetics
Aragon are famous for their larger sized watches, with dials from 45 to 50mm and thick casings being the norm, but the DF40 is a diversion that brings them more in line with most people's choice of an ideal watch size. Even for a dive watch this gem of a timepiece is smaller than the average dive watch.
This piece is finished with a blue sunburst dial and features an deep cut engraved bezel filled in a matching blue colour. The solid bracelet has a unique style of it's own and is fully adjustable and replaceable if you prefer a more traditional style. Blasted rather than polished is the norm on an Aragon watch, which adds to the rugged feel.
Movement and Functionality
Lume filled, highly legible hands and markers are the order of the day here, with a sweep second hand and date window, all powered by a Seiko NH35 automatic self-winding movement that needs no batteries.
The standout feature you'll probably never use: An almost absurd 500 metres of water resistance (that's 1650 feet in English). To put that into perspective the Rolex Submariner, a watch designed for professional diving that will set you back around £12,000, only has 300m of water resistance.
The watch even includes a helium valve. You might never get any wetter than when you clean the car or get caught in the rain, but it's an indication of the amazing build quality you are investing in. You probably won't find another watch costing less than 4 figures that includes this level of waterproofing, with many so-called dive watches costing much more, such as the famous Tudor Black Bay (£4,000) only offering 200 meters, less than half the level of this Aragon piece.
Build Quality
Made in the USA, Aragon are famous for their rugged, if a little industrial, build quality and they really are built "like a tank". If there's a fault it's that edges can be a little shaper than you would normally find and lack a little finesse - you're not finding Rolex or Grand Seiko polishing here. But they make up for that with a solid build quality that will last a lifetime. If we have any gripes the lume isn't the longest lasting and the helium valve is slightly oddly placed, almost dropping off the bottom of the case, but given the quality and value at this price we're nitpicking.
You're also getting more big-price features, adjustable milled clasp, automatic movement, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating, exhibition case back and even a screw-down crown and that superb engraved bezel.
Durability
What more can we say? You won't find a more solid watch at this price or even close to it. You can spend ten times the price and still come up short. These are not the most polished, glittering pieces but that's not what they're designed to do.
